The Death of Chatterton hangs from the wall of the Tate Britain, a resplendent depiction of tragedy. This is the canvas that earned Henry Wallis his lasting legacy. It embodies the Pre-Raphaelite aesthetic, from its morbid subject (Thomas Chatterton, a precocious 18th-century poet who poisoned himself to escape poverty, aged only seventeen), to its vibrant colourwork and detailed naturalism, characteristic of the first phase of Pre-Raphaelitism.
En 1929, dix ans après la fondation du Bauhaus, l'institut berlinois Martin-Gropius-Bau a lancé l'exposition «Nouvelle Typographie». László Moholy-Nagy, qui avait quitté Dessau l'année précédente et s'était taillé une réputation de designer à Berlin, a été invité exposer son travail avec d'autres artistes. Il a conçu une salle intitulée "Où va la typographie?" - où il a présenté 78 planches murales illustrant l'évolution de la "nouvelle typographie" depuis le début du siècle et en extrapolant son avenir possible. Pour créer ces graphiques, il a non seulement utilisé ses propres conceptions, mais également des impressions publicitaires de collègues associés au Bauhaus. Le graphisme fonctionnel, initié par le mouvement «New Typography» dans les années 1920, rompt avec la tradition et instaure un nouveau design publicitaire basé sur des critères artistiques. Son objectif était d'obtenir une apparence moderne avec des caractères normalisés, des normes industrielles DIN et le respect d'idéaux tels que la lisibilité, la lucidité et la franchise, conformément aux principes fondamentaux de l'art constructiviste. Pour la première fois, cette publication complète présente les tableaux muraux de Moholy-Nagy qui ont récemment été redécouverts dans la Kunstbibliothek de Berlin. Des auteurs renommés donnent un aperçu de ce trésor en contribuant chacun à cette compilation alphabétique commençant par «A» pour «Asymmetry» et se terminant par «Z» pour «Zukunftsvision» («vision du futur»). En parcourant les pages et en permettant une libre association, le monde typographique des idées de l'avant-garde des années 1920 est une nouvelle fois ressuscité.
Raphaël, Goya ou Ingres n'ont jamais crée de chaussures. Pourtant, ils ont « enregistré » des chaussures dans leurs oeuvres, produisant ainsi, sans en avoir l'intention, des archives de styles. Les peintures du Louvre nous offrent la possibilité d'étudier les modes changeantes de la chaussure entre 1280 et 1863, nous permettant de voir de près qui portait quel type de chaussures à quel moment, puis de réaliser quelles personnes ne portaient pas de chaussures du tout. Un livre sensuel sur les modes et un regard sur 600 ans d'histoire sociale.

Francis Bacon et Henry Moore ont exposé ensemble en 1965 dans une galerie à Londres.
